Sariska National Park’s Journey
This place was a hunting ground for the royal families of Alwar in Rajasthan, it was declared a wildlife reserve in 1955. In 1958, it was declared as a wildlife sanctuary. Then in 1978, this sanctuary was given the status of tiger reserve making it a part of India’s Project Tiger. Then after a few years in 1990, the wildlife sanctuary was entitled to a national park with an area of 273.8 square kilometers. The area of the reserve has mineral resources such as copper and mining activities have taken place in the past. Then in 1991, the apex court of India banned mining activities inside the area.
Let me tell you a fact despite being a tiger reserve, in 2004, all the tigers became extinct from Sariska, and then from 2008 to 2011 World’s First Tiger Relocation took place. The tigers from Ranthambore were reintroduced to Sariska. The tiger relocation was successful in 2012 because a tigress of Sariska gave birth to 2 cubs.
